“Adieu, Adieu, parting is such sweet sorrow” – Willy Wonka

I remember being at a Windows 7 pre-release demonstration from Microsoft in early 2009. Like everyone else, I kept everyone on XP for as long as possible using my very technical description that even-numbered Windows version are terrible. I was in awe of the amazing leap that Win7 brought to us. But now, we have to move onward and upward to Windows 10 and deal with the holdouts refusing to let go of Windows 7. I’ve never been worried about Windows 10 not being good despite being an even number because they skipped 9. I think the folks at Microsoft wanted to finally have a good, even numbered version.

As of January 2020, Windows 7, Windows 2008 server and Windows 2008 R2 Server will be end of life.

About Nick Utiger

Nick is a Network Architect for medium-sized corporate networks. Nick started in small business and stayed with the clients as they grow into larger multi-location/state entities. I am a former MSP, ISP and ITSP owner that has found a great home with ACT. Aside from network design, I have the pleasure of providing some customer relations, act as the licensee for the company’s contractor license, provide low-voltage construction consulting and am the occasional vCIO. I have been known to run screaming from a building, only to trudge back and finish the job.
